We recommend including your doormat in your daily vacuuming routine (or monthly... who are we to judge?!) As it's job is to collect dirt, dust and hair; this will prevent these elements sitting on top of the mat and making it look dull.

We DO NOT recommend unleashing your inner Taylor Swift and shaking it off as this can cause the rubber backing to split. Remember; it's holding up to 10x it's weight in water and debris - that can be a lot of weight on a couple of mm of rubber backing, especially on the larger mats. When moving your mat to clean the area, make sure to hold with two hands, or put it into a loose roll to prevent too much weight pulling on one area of the mat.

Rain & Water. Now, your doormats primary job is to absorb rain, dirt, dust and debris keeping all that pesky stuff outside, rather than inside. Holding up to 10x it's weight in water and debris, this will cause the fibres to darken over time, in areas that get wet or experience lots of foot traffic. To prevent this issue, try to ensure your mat gets wet and dries out equally across the full width and length. For example if there is a corner of the mat that will get hit by rain due to it's positioning, next time it rains, pop the whole mat out so all the fibres are equally saturated and this will ensure the fibres dry out evenly and don't look patchy. The drying out of a mat can take a long time due to the density and absorption of the fibres but a couple of days in our hot Aussie sun when possible should dry your mat entirely. Flip it over and move to another spot for a moment too to dry out the underside, and the area underneath. It's unlikely the coconut husks will return to the original colour through drying alone - just like if you sat in a rain puddle in your new white jeans... (hellooo the 90's) but it's quickly fixed with equal saturation.

Please be aware that coir, as a 100% natural product, may be lighter in some areas, darker in others, have small patches of denser or sparse hair, or very small coconut tufts/knots within the weave.
